To unite women who are dedicated in supporting and enriching the health, education, and welfare of the less fortunate children in Broward County.
Children's opportunity Group was founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1949 under the name of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a social national sorority. This small group of women wanted to focus strictly on serving the needy children of Broward County. The ladies raised money for the community through the proceeds they made on various fundraisers. In 1955, they decided to break away from Epsilon Sigma Alpha and give themselves a new name, Children's Opportunity Group.
Over the years the women continued their monthly luncheon meetings in each other's homes. They planned and produced many successful fundraising events, including fashion show luncheons. Membership grew to meet the growing demands in our community.
Today, Children's Opportunity Group membership is limited to 50 women. We still meet in one another's homes on a monthly basis. Our main goal remains to raise money in the community for needy children through fundraising projects.
Each year COG gives a Christmas party, carefully selecting a day care center, teen foster group home, or other center that cares for children who may not otherwise receive special attention at holiday time. Cookies and gifts are enjoyed. Often siblings are included in the gift giving. COG members and guests share in the fun.
